2010 Fantasy Football Draft Kit
|
|
|
Bargains
- These can be either well-known, established fantasy
players who are projected to do much better than their
2009 statistics or players who broke out last season
and could be the new fantasy football studs. Basically
you can get these players at a lower draft price than
their value will actually be (bargains).
Breakouts
- Most true sleepers fall under this category. They
have shown potential in the past and this may be their
year to breakout and become a fantasy star.
Rookies
- These are first year players who could start for
your team and be star. |

Bargains: Quarterbacks
|
Jay Cutler -
Bears - It was a dismal move
for Jay Cutler to Chicago. He lost his great receiver
Brandon Marshall and had to learn a brand new offense.
The results were not good.
Yes, Cutler did throw for 3,666 yards and 27 touchdowns,
both statistics worthy of a fantasy starter, but his 26
interceptions not only killed many Chicago Bear scoring
opportunities, but it also killed many fantasy owner's
days. Cutler still has big-time fantasy potential and
if he can get a receiving crew to surround him, he should
return to the 4,000 yard plus fantasy quarterback and
see his interceptions drop significantly.
The good news in the offseason was the Bears hiring offensive-guru,
Mike Martz, to run the offense in Chicago. You can argue
whether his system is successful for winning in the NFL,
but you can't argue with its fantasy results.
Cutler should fly relatively under the radar in the mid-high
rounds in this years fantasy drafts and it may be wise
to wait and pounce on him after the top-ten quarterbacks
have been selected. |
Matt Ryan - Falcons
- Ryan took a step back in his sophomore year seeing his
quarterback rating of 87.7 as a rookie fall to 80.9. His
total yardage and touchdowns regressed as well.
A quarterback having a second year regression happens,
but in Ryan's case it was more do to injuries to him and
his team as it was do to his overall play. Ryan himself
missed about three games, so he would have likely eclipsed
the 3,500 yard mark and 25 touchdowns if healthy. Michael
Turner missed six games putting additional pressure on
the young Ryan.
Ryan has some very good weapons, namely Roddy White who
caught 85 passes for 1,153 yards and 11 touchdowns. Tony
Gonzalez made the easy switch from Kansas City and caught
83 passes. Michael Jenkins makes a fine second receiver,
but the Falcons need depth. Jerious Norwood, who also
missed six games, needs to become a viable option in the
passing game.
The Falcons boast a very good and very underrated offensive
line giving up just 27 sacks and the running backs averaged
a very good 4.2 yards per carry. 2008 #1 pick tackle Sam
Baker has begun to show his ability and needs to continue
to grow and the Falcons added depth by draft Mike Johnson
and Joe Hawley in the third and fourth-round of the 2010
draft. |

Bargains: Wide Receivers
|
| Malcom Floyd
- Chargers - The 6-5, 225-pounder
caught 45 passes for 776 yards in his third season. Vincent
Jackson will miss the first three games, leaving Floyd
as the Chargers best receiver to start the season. Floyd
could blossom in 2010 and have a 75 catch, 1,100 yard
season. |
| Mike Wallace
- Steelers - He had a breakout
rookie campaign where he caught 39 passes for 756 yards
and six touchdowns. With the trade of Santonio Holmes
to the Jets, Wallace will now be a full-time starter and
with the great Hines Ward getting up in age, he could
become the Steelers #1 receiver. The issues with Ben Roethlisberger
hurts all of the Steelers' wide receivers, but Wallace
could slip in the draft a be a fantasy draft bargain. |
Julian Edelman
- Patriots - Edelman as a
sleeper is mostly based on Wes Welker's injury. Welker
tore both his ACL and MCL in the season finale a year
ago in Houston, and underwent successful surgery in February.
and thus, Welker could start the season on the PUP.
Edelman managed 37 receptions for 359 yards and a touchdown
as a seventh-round draft pick rookie in 2009. More importantly
he caught 10 passes for 103 yards in the final game of
the season and six catches for 44 yards and two touchdowns
in the Patriots playoff loss to the Ravens. He has been
called the "Wes Welker clone" and if Welker
is out or slowed down, Edelman should flourish. |
Eddie Royal -
Broncos - With Jay Cutler
at the helm, Royal caught 91 passes for 991 yards and
five touchdowns as a rookie in 2008, but flopped in his
second season catching just 37 passes for 345 yards with
Kyle Orton. The good news is Brandon Marshall is gone,
so more looks should come his way in 2010. 70 catches
for 900 yards should be easy if he stays healthy. |
