2011 Fantasy Football Draft Kit
|
|
|
Bargains
- These can be either well-known, established fantasy
players who are projected to do much better than their
2009 statistics or players who broke out last season
and could be the new fantasy football studs. Basically
you can get these players at a lower draft price than
their value will actually be (bargains).
Breakouts
- Most true sleepers fall under this category. They
have shown potential in the past and this may be their
year to breakout and become a fantasy star.
Rookies
- These are first year players who could start for
your team and be star. |

Bargains: Quarterbacks
|
Tony Romo - Cowboys
- Romo has generally been a bit of a bargain quarterback,
but after a dismal 2010 record in Dallas and a season-ending
injury, it is quite possible that Romo could fall and
be one of the bargains of the 2011 fantasy football draft.
It wasn't but a year ago when he was just behind Aaron
Rodgers and equal to Phillip Rivers in fantasy rankings.
Coming into 2011, nothing has changed for the bad, in
fact Romo's potential looks to be at its best in 2011.
Miles Ausitn has already established himself as one of
the best receivers in the NFL and Dez Bryant could be
better. You add tight end great, Jason Witten and veteran
receiver Roy Williams to the mix and you have the potential
for the best receiving corps in the NFL.
Many come way with the thought that Romo played poorly
in 2010 before his injury and while it was not his best
performance, it was far from bad. Through six games (he
only threw 7 passes in his 6th) Romo threw for 1,605 yards,
11 touchdowns and 7 interceptions while completing a career-high
69.5% of his passes. If Romo played a full season, based
on his statistics, he would have thrown for approximately
4,800 yards, 32 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. Simply
put, he was on his way to having a Drew Brees like season
and there is no reason why Romo will not do it again in
2011. |
Josh Freeman
- Buccaneers - One of the
breakouts of 2010 should be a bargain pick in the 2011
fantasy football draft after tossing for 3,451 yards,
25 touchdowns, and just 6 interceptions.
The 2009, seventeenth overall-pick out of Kansas State
has all the makings of a great quarterback: strong arm,
mobility and he is a good decision maker. He also just
may have the weapons necessary to become a fantasy stud.
2010 rookie Mike Williams looks like he can become the
elite receiver Freeman needs to be great. With Williams
stretching the field, Kellen Winslow is a great compliment
over the middle. The only thing missing is someone opposite
Williams and Arrelious Benn, the other rookie of 2010,
could still mature into that role. Don't be surprised
if the Buccaneers pick up some receiver in free agency
to compliment Williams.
Either way, Josh Freeman should slip a bit in the draft
and play much better than his draft value. |
Ryan Fitzpatrick
- Bills - The Bills have made
no moves for a quarterback, signaling that they believe
that Fitzpatrick is the real deal. His 2010 stats seem
to agree: 3,000 yards, 23 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.
Helping Fitzpatrick's cause is the sudden rise of receiver
Stevie Johnson. His 82 receptions for 1,073 yards and
10 touchdowns will give Fitzpatrick the weapon he needs
to excel. The veteran Lee Evans should have the other
starting job, but the Bills may be willing to spend some
money on another receiver to supplement or start in for
of Evans.
The bigger question for the Bills offense will be the
run game. The good news is they will have a solid attack
with Fred Jackson and the possibility of a very good ground
attack if 2010 #1 pick, C.J. Spiller, plays better in
2011.
You do not want your season to depend on Fitzpatrick as
your #1 quarterback, but he can make a bargain backup
late in the draft. |
Jason Campbell
- Raiders - Campbell has always
been an underrated quarterback and his 2,387 yards passing
13 touchdowns and 8 interceptions doesn't seem to change
that, but a look at his career shows that he can still
become a legitimate fantasy starter with the right weapons.
In his 5 year career Campbell has completed 60.8% of his
passes while throwing 68 touchdowns and 46 interceptions.
The problem has always been he didn't throw enough to
be a fantasy great, nor did he really have the weapons.
Oakland still doesn't have the big guns Campbell needs,
but there is hope. With Louis Murphy, Jacoby Ford and
Darrius Heyward-Bey you have potential, but that's it
for now. Free agency will determine where and if to draft
Campbell. First tight end Zach Miller is a free agent,
and he is a must keep. Second the Raiders could very well
sign a big free agent receiver, like Sidney Rice and that
could be all Campbell needs to excel in 2011. We know
the Raiders can run with Darren McFadden and Michael Bush
and already have a solid o-line, but the Raiders also
added center Stefen Wisniewski and tackle Joseph Barksdale
in the draft to insure the line stays strong in 2011. |
|
Bargains: Wide Receivers
|
Mike Williams
- Buccaneers - As draft day
approaches WIlliams is becoming less and less of a bargain,
but he should still slip through the cracks of many drafts
and be a bargain.
The rookie 4th-round-pick out of Syracuse caught 65 passes
for 964 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2010 as he and quarterback
Josh Freeman developed a close connection that should
only get better in 2011. As Freeman grows, so should Williams.
80 receptions for 1,200 yards and another 11 touchdowns
could be in the cards for Williams. |
Johnny Knox -
Bears - It would be surprising
if the Bears do not add some receiver in free agency,
but either way, Knox should still get his fair-share of
fantasy stats.
He showed the growth you like to see in his second year
with 51 receptions, 960 yards and 5 touchdowns after his
45 reception, 527 yard 5 touchdown rookie season.
Another season with Cutler should put Knox into the 1,000
yard and more club. |
| Deion Branch
- Patriots - There is risk
when drafting the aging veteran, but Branch is one of
Tom Brady's starting receivers and this means there will
be reward. He finished with 48 receptions for 706 and
5 touchdowns in his 11 games with the Patriots in 2010
and though the Patriots spread the ball around like nobody
else, Branch should get his fair share and he should bring
you good value late in the draft. |
Jacoby Jones
- Texans - He is listed as
the #3 receiver at the time, but the way he played in
the last 4 weeks of the season ( 22 receptions, 287 yards,
1 touchdown), he may grab the second spot in Houston and
be a solid fantasy option at wide receiver in 2011.
The Texans 2007 3rd round pick has been slow to come around,
but the Texans like his size (6-2, 210) and speed. He
should be drafted no matter what, but his value will depend
on whether he is #2 or #3. |
Mark Clayton
- Rams - The former #1 pick
in Baltimore had been in the doghouse ever since he slipped
from his 67 catch, 939 yard sophomore season. He ended
up winning a starting spot with the Rams and caught 22
passes for 300 yards and 2 touchdowns in his first four
games before a season-ending injury.
The Rams have a lot of questions at the receiver position
and unless a free agent comes around, Clayton may be their
number one answer. If he does stay on and start, expect
him to get about 75 catches and 1,000 yards and be a 2011
draft day bargain. |
Mario Manningham
- Giants - He has had back-to-back
solid seasons and finished with 60 receptions for 944
yards and 9 touchdowns in 2010. Not bad considering he
did start until Steve Smith went down with an injury.
With Smith a free agent, it could clear the way for a
75 reception 1,100 yard, 10 touchdown season for Manningham. |
