Breakouts: Quarterbacks
|
Sam Bradford
- Rams - Bradford really broke
out in his rookie year, but therer is more to come. You
cannot ask for more from a rookie quarterback than what
Sam Bradford did in 2010. He threw for 3,512 yards, 18
touchdowns and only 15 interceptions while completing
60% of his passes. This was with a rather shaky Ram offense
that didn't have much in the way of receivers.
The Rams do have Donnie Avery, who missed the season with
an injury, due to return as well as a group of interesting
candidates that includes the 6-5 Brandon Gibson, the revitalized
Mark Clayton, slot receiver Danny Amendola as well as
Danario Alexander. The Rams added receivers Austin Pettis
and Greg Salas as well as tight end Lance Kendricks in
the upper rounds in the 2011 draft. It is also possible
that the Rams could go after a free agent.
The bottom line is the Rams should be able to put together
a better receiving corps in 2011 than 2011 and if Bradford
takes the next step, he could be the next fantasy stud
quarterback. |
Matthew Stafford
- Lions - After a solid rookie
debut (2,267 yards passing, 13 touchdowns, 20 interceptions
and completing 53.3% of his passes) Stafford showed signs
of greatness in his second season, but missed most of
it to injury.
In three games in 2010 Stafford completed 59.4% of his
passes, threw for 535 yards, 6 touchdowns and 1 interception.
Coming into 2011 a healthy Stafford has an improved Lions
offense to work with which includes stud receiver Calvin
Johnson and future stud tight end, Brandon Pettigrew.
You add veteran receiver Nate Burleson and second-round
draft pick Titus Young and you have the makings of a very
good receiving corps.
The Lions should be able to run the ball well in 2011
with 2010 first-round pick Jahvid Best and 2011 seond-round
pick Mikel LeShoure. They will run behind a rather average,
but solid offensive line. This should allow Stafford,
to began his ascent into becoming a fantasy stud quarterback. |
Kevin Kolb -
Eagles - As of this writing,
Kolb has not been traded, but he is likely to be traded
and become a starter for someone in the upcoming 2011
NFL season. The number one candidate is the Arizona Cardinals.
The former 2nd-round pick was the Eagles quarterback of
the future before Michael Vick's resurrection. He has
three years of grooming under Andy Reid as well as some
very sharp performances as a starter, including a 23 of
29, 326 yards and 3 touchdown performance in 2010 and
24 of 34 for 327 yards and 2 touchdown performance in
2009. While it is only two games it gives you a snapshot
of what Kolb can possibly do if he was the full-time starting
quarterback for an NFL team.
The Cardinals would a great fit for Kolb with stud receiver
Larry Fitzgerald as well as Steve Breaston to throw to
and Cardinal's #2 pick Ryan Williams to add to the run
game. |

Breakouts: Wide Receivers
|
Mike Williams
- Seahawks - The former 10th
overall pick out of USC in the 2005 draft seemed to be
a major bust for the Lions as well as the Raiders and
Titans, but he has resurrected his career in Seattle with
with former USC coach Pete Carroll and they gave Williams
a three-year contract extension.
At 6-5, 235 pounds, Williams is more like a fast tight
end over the middle which should give him good reception
numbers as well as many end zone looks.
If the Seahawks can get good quarterback play, Williams
could see a 80 reception, 1,000 yard 10 touchdowns season
in 2011. |
Jordy Nelson
- Packers - If his 9 catch,
140 yard, touchdown performance is any indication, 2011
should be a breakout season for Jordy Nelson. In addition,
Nelson caught another 12 passes for 146 yards and a touchdown
in the preceding playoff games.
With the veteran Donald Driver far past his prime, Nelson
seems to have beaten out James Jones as Aaron Rodgers
second favorite receiver. He fits the mold of a Wes Welker
possession-type receiver and could excel in a PPR league. |
