Bargains: Running Backs
|
Steven Jackson
- Rams - Most fantasy owners
look at Jackson as a falling stock who is past his prime,
but maybe not just yet. The new potentially high-flying
Sam Bradford/Josh McDaniels offense may scare potential
owners away as well, but it shouldn't. It should mean
more touchdowns, receptions and holes in the defense for
Jackson to run through.
Even in his injury-return, rookie quarterback 2010 season
he managed 1,241 yards and 46 receptions. He has had a
healthy off season and is in the best shape of his career.
Jackson will be a bargain if you can get him in the second
round and he should give you first round value. |
Ryan Torain -
Redskins - He ran for 742
yards and 4 touchdowns in just 10 games in 2010 and established
himself as the Redskins number one back.
The Shanahan draft pick from Denver turned out to be exactly
what Shanahan thought he would be. The only question is
can Torain take a full work load and finish a season without
injury. While that doesn't seem likely, he should still
give you a good starting running back while he is in the
healthy and you never know, he could remain healthy and
give you a 1,200 yard back at a bargain draft price. |
Marshawn Lynch
- Seahawks - While Lynch has
been overrated as a fantasy back in the past, coming into
2011 he should be a bargain pick. He rushed for 537 yards
and 6 touchdowns as a Seahawk plus another 131 yards and
1 touchdown in the Seahawks big playoff win over the Saints.
Lynch will not win your league for you, but he should
provide a solid second running back who should top 1,000
yards and score around 10 touchdowns. |
| Ben Tate - Texans
- Adrian Foster had a monster season that possibly could
have been Tates if not for injury. The second-round-pick
was looking great in camp before the injury and should
be the Texans #2 back in 2011. He is a valuable insurance
policy for Foster owners and might play enough to be an
occasional emergency starter. |
Montario Hardesty
- Browns - He was expected
to be the Browns starting running back in 2010, but injury
left the job to Peyton Hillis who ran away with it and
will start again in 2011.
The big 2nd-round-pick out of Tennessee will have a chance
to cut into Hillis' playing time and give the Browns more
of a two-back-attack. In addition , Hillis has a bit of
an injury history, so he could catch some starts as well. |
|
Bargains: Tight Ends
|
Aaron Hernandez - Patriots
- The rookie fourth-round-pick shared time with several
tight ends, mostly other rookie Rob Gronkowski at the
tight end position. While Gronkowski may start, he will
also go for a higher draft price. Owners would be wise
to pass on Gronkowski and grab Hernandez at a much
cheaper draft price.
Hernandez is more of a receiver than a tight end and the
Patriots seemed to build their offense,of all things,
around throwing to tight ends. It may have been because
they had to, but it worked and it should carry on to some
extent into 2011.
Hernandez could be in line for a 65 catch 800 yard, 8
touchdown season. |
Brent Celek - Eagles
- After turning in a fantasy stud 2009 season where he
caught 76 passes for 971 yards Celek was beset by injury
and a new quarterback and he only managed 42 receptions
for 511 yards.
If the Eagles are to excel on offense, safe passes over
the middle to Celek while Jackson and Maclin stretch the
field are a must. He should exceed 60 receptions and 700
yards in 2011. |
Benjamin Watson - Browns
- After years of falling short with the Patriots the former
#1 pick had a great season for Cleveland catching 68 passes
for 763 yards and 3 touchdowns.
The Browns have big questions at quarterback, but whoever
starts will look for Watson as a safety valve and possibly
the best receiving option out of a weak receiving corps.
If he can catch a few more than 3 touchdowns, Watson will
be a big draft day bargain at the tight end position. |
