Round-by-Round Fantasy Football Draft
Analysis
(Rounds 7-10)
|
Round Seven: The late rounds
usually hold few surprises, but there are bargains such
as the 74th overall pick, wide receiver Donnie Avery.
Team B said, "Avery showed flashes of greatness in
2008 and if the rest of the offense can remain healthy
and show more consistency, Avery could become a top fantasy
receiver in 2009."
The round was dominated by the remaining legitimate fantasy
starting wide receivers until Team J drafted the first
defense of the draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Team J
said, "I pick again soon and I can get an equal-valued
receiver or backup running back then, but it may be my
last chance to get the #1 rated fantasy defense. Getting
a great defense is underrated and at the end of round
seven is a great spot with little risk." |
Round Eight: The round saw
some more receivers going, but it was dominated by the
drafting of the remaining running backs. One of those,
Rashard Mendenhall, went to Team H. Team H said, "At
this point before preseason, he is a crap shoot, but he
has the talent to be a very good back and I know the Steelers
want him to get the ball a lot in 2009.
Zach Miller went to Team B near the end of the round and
Team B said, "I love Miller! I think I have a second-tier
tight end at a third-tier price." |
Round Nine: The round was
dominated by more running back hopefuls such as LeSean
McCoy who was drafted by Team G. They said, "Westbrook's
history suggests that he will go down and if he does we
may have a huge bargain in the rookie McCoy.
Often-injured running back Laurence Maroney was drafted
by Team J and they said, "Some experts like him,
some hate him, I am in the middle and think he is worth
drafting like some of the rookie backups. You never know!" |
Round Ten: Tight end John
Carlson went to Team I and they said, "My advice
is wait on your tight end and go after Miller or Carslon
late in the draft. They are bargains who will at worst
be solid starters and at best be Fantasy All-Stars.
The round ended with some interesting running backs being
taken. First Team B took Correll Buckhalter and they said,
"Knowshon Moreno is no guarantee and a two-back system
is possible. Buckhalter can catch passes and play in the
red zone."
Jamaal Charles went to Team A and they said, "He
played great at the end of the season, and I think the
Chiefs will use him quite a bit in 2009, especially in
the passing game. |
