Off Season Report

2008 NFL Mock Draft - Provided by Football Futures

Miami - Glenn Dorsey DT LSU
Dorsey is the type of interior lineman you can build a defense around. He brings the versatility to play multiple spots and should make an impact from Day One.

St. Louis - Chris Long DE Virginia
The Rams need help at end, and Long is a great fit. His all around ability and intensity will be a big boost to the Rams line.

Atlanta - Matt Ryan QB Boston College
Ryan has emerged as the top QB on just about everyone’s board because of his intangibles. His toughness and leadership would be a nice addition to a Falcon team looking for a leader at the QB spot.

Oakland - Jake Long OT Michigan
While McFadden and Gholston are enticing, landing a bookend tackle to protect Russell is a must.

Kansas City - Brian Brohm QB Louisville
They think long and hard about Ryan Clady, but the QB wins out. Brodie Croyle does not appear to be the answer, so landing a QB at the top is the route they choose to go.

NY Jets - Darren McFadden RB Arkansas
Even though Thomas Jones is solid, McFadden is special. He is a gamechanger and for an offense that lacks a superstar, makes too much sense.

New England (SF) - Keith Rivers LB USC
Rivers brings the instincts and versatility Belichick covets, and the speed and athleticism the Pats lack at LB.

Baltimore - Vernon Gholston DE/OLB Ohio St.
Gholston will provide some of the big play ability lost when Adalius Thomas left town. With Brohm gone, he appears to be the next best option.

Cincinnati - Sedrick Ellis DT USC
There is not a huge drop from #1 to #9 in talent, as Ellis may be the top DT on some boards. He slides to the Bengals though, and they couldn’t be happier.

New Orleans Saints - Leodis McKelvin CB Troy
The Saints still need help in the secondary, and McKelvin is rapidly rising up draft boards. He has all the physical skill to be a top corner in the league.

Buffalo - Mike Jenkins CB South Florida
The Bills have not filled the need for a corner that Nate Clements left when he bolted for SF. Jenkins has some of the same ability and they hope can develop into a similar type of impact performer.

Denver - Dan Connor LB Penn St.
The Broncos are looking for LB help, and Connor may be the perfect solution. He brings the versatility to play in or out, and concluded a fine career with a fine Senior Bowl performance.

Carolina - Kenny Phillips S Miami
If Phillips is still on the board, this is probably a quick selection. He is a big time talent at safety and would fill a big void in the Panther secondary.

Chicago - Andre Woodson QB Kentucky
Rex Grossman and Brian Griese clearly are not the answer at QB. Woodson has the physical skill to become the guy, but he will need some mechanical work to reach his potential.

Detroit - Calais Campbell DE Miami
Campbell has a ton of potential. He may be a few years away from being the dominating all around force he has the chance to become, but he should help as a pass rusher early.

Arizona - Antoine Cason CB Arizona
While he may not be quite as fast as some other corner prospects, none of them are as talented on the field as Cason. The Cards would love to keep Cason in the state of Arizona.

Minnesota - Derrick Harvey DE Florida
For a team looking for help on the perimeter, Harvey is a great solution. He is a big time threat off the edge, and should help out early on on 3rd downs.

Houston - Jonathan Stewart RB Oregon
Stewart is a horse that can help out in a variety of ways. Having a threat like him in the backfield would open up the passing game.

Philadelphia - DeSean Jackson WR Cal
Jackson’s big play ability as a receiver and return man would be an immediate boost to the Eagle offense.

Tampa Bay - Ryan Clady OT Boise St.
Clady is a kid that will probably go much higher than this. His potential at LT is tremendous, and the Bucs couldn’t be happier that he is still available.

Washington - Quentin Groves DE Auburn
The Skins are always looking for a stud edge rusher, and they may have finally found their answer. Groves could have gone higher if not for playing through a toe injury for most of the year.

Dallas (Cle) - Felix Jones RB Arkansas
Julius jones is on his way out, and the Boys will need another big play back to go alongside Marion Barber. Jones is a major threat with the ball in his hands, and would be a nice fit in Big D.

Pittsburgh - Jeff Otah OT Pitt
FA could hit the Steelers hard on the OL, so adding a talent like Otah would make sense. He has big time potential and could help out at a number of positions.

Tennessee - Limas Sweed WR Texas
Sweed is exactly what the Titans ordered. He is a huge target for the erratic Vince Young, and he should help in the red zone. His experience with Vince at Texas only helps.

Seattle - Fred Davis TE USC
The Seahawks could use a threat at TE like Davis, who brings a lot to the table. Davis is a legit threat as a receiver, but is underrated as a blocker.

Jacksonville - Lawrence Jackson DE USC
Jackson is a solid all around end that should be able to step in immediately and have an impact. Jack Del Rio is a USC guy that would love to add this Trojan to his defensive line.

Dallas - Reggie Smith DB Oklahoma
Smith brings big time potential as a corner and safety. He gives them the flexibility to find out where he fits best, then adjusting Anthony Henry based on where Smith lands.

San Francisco (Ind) - Malcolm Kelly WR Oklahoma
Kelly brings the talent and upside to be an all around target the 9ers haven’t had since TO left.

Green Bay - Aqib Talib CB Kansas

San Diego - Kentwan Balmer DT North Carolina
Balmer had a huge season, and brings a lot of versatility to the field. His talent would be nice for the Chargers who lack depth along the line.

Green Bay
- Aqib Talib CB Kansas
Talib brings the talent to play corner and safety. Playing behind two veterans at corner would be a great situation for the early entry to learn and develop.

New England - Forfited pick for cheating

NY Giants - Ali Highsmith LB LSU
The Giants need some LB help, and Highsmith would be a great addition. His speed and aggressiveness on the outside would be a big boost.

Week 16

Parker Out For The Season

Pittsburgh Steeler running back, Willie Parker broke a bone in his lower right leg in the first quarter Thursday night in the 42-24 win against the St. Louis Rams. Najeh Davenport took over and rushed for 112 yards and a TD. Any starting Steeler running back makes a good pick up.

Week 15

RB Walker Starts For Texans

Houston rookie running back, Darin Walker got the start Thursday in the Texans 31-13 victory against the Broncos. He carried 13 times for 63 yards, but Ron Dayne got the TD. If you are needy or you have a roster sport go ahead and pick him up, otherwise you are looking at another running back split.

Hackett May Return To Seahawks

Seattle Seahawk wide receiver, D.J. Hackett, is ahead of schedule in his rehab of a sprained right ankle. It is possible he could return next week. This makes him a great fantasy playoff pick-up. Even if you just get him for your Fantasy Super Bowl he could give you the one good start you need at receiver. Don't let your competitor's get him either if possible.

Bush Out, Stecker Tops 100

Reggie Bush is out for the season and veteran back-up Aaron Stecker improved the Saints running games rushing for 100 yards on 20 carries in the Saints 34-14 Monday night win in Atlanta. The Saints offense is up and down, but it has great potential for good fantasy points in the playoffs. Unfortunately, most points will be though the air, but he is decent start and the Saints will be playing all their starters for the remainder of the season.

Colts' Gonzo Comes Up Big

Indianapolis wide receiver, Anthony Gonzales came up big in the Colts 44-20 win over the Ravens. He is starting for Marvin Harrison who is still out with a knee injury and maybe out for another week or 2. Receivers always are gambles but Gonz can come up big in the Fantasy Football Playoffs.

Week 14

Henry Not Suspended

Denver Bronco starting running back, Travis Henry has won his appeal and will not be suspended. This further clouds the fantasy situation in Denver. Henry has been a disappointment in 2007, but has managed 629 yards @ 4.4 a pop and has 3 TD's in a season filled with minor injuries and distractions. Selvin Young's value take a hit and it has become a situation to stay away from if possible. Henry is the better option, especially with this cloud lifted from him.

Buc's McCown May Start Again

Tampa Bay starting quarterback, Jeff Garcia, may sit out another game and if he does, Luke McCown will start again. McCown went 29-37 for 313 yards 2 TD's & 1 Int. and added 34 yards rushing in the Buc's a win over the New Orleans Saints. McCown or Garcia will both make good starts next week against Houston.

Lions' McDonald To Start

Veteran Detroit Lion wide receiver Roy Williams is out for the season and Mike Furrey, will start. Back-up Shaun McDonald should have increased fantasy value the rest of the season.

WR Johnson To Start For Cardinals

Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald is out and now receiver Anquan Boldin, has dislocated his toe. It is undetermined whether Boldin will miss time. Either way back-up Bryant Johnson will start and should put up good fantasy numbers. He is worth a picking up if you have a spot.

Week 13

Farve Knocked Out In Loss To Cowboys

Brett Farve was knocked out of Thursday's game in Dallas with a right elbow injury. He has ten days off and that will help, but Farve may miss a week as the extent of the injury is unknown. Aaron Rodgers replaced Farve and was very effective going 18-of-25 for 201 yards with 1 TD. If you need a QB Rodgers is a great pick up playing at home against the lowly Raiders. Dallas won the game 37-27.

Benson Out For The Season

Chicago Bear starting running back and fantsay bust, Cedric Benson, is expected to miss the rest of the season after sustaining a significant left ankle injury during the team's Week 12 game. Benson will be evaluated Monday, Nov. 26. Veteran Adrian Peterson will move in as the starter, with Garrett Wolfe the backup. Peterson is a better receiver than Benson and should do as good if not better and makes a good pick up. Also keep on eye on rookie 3rd-round pick Garret Wolfe. He finished with 3 carries for 29 yards.

Kolby Smith Explodes for 150

Free agent rookie running back, Kolby Smith, exploded for 150 yards and 2 TD's in the first start of his career in Sunday's loss to the Raiders. With Larry Johnson still out and no word on a return, Smith could be a valuable playoff running back.

Vikings' Rice Catches TD

Minnesota Viking rookie receiver, Sidney Rice, caught 3 passes for 82 yards & 1 TD in the Vikings 41-17 stunner against the Giants. The 2007 2nd-round pick is playing well, unfortunately has nobody to throw to him. Considering the Vikings had just 129 yards passing, he didn't to bad. With a plethora of solid receivers in fantasy football this season he is a long shot at this point, but if you are in need he is available in almost all leagues.

Ricky Williams Out For Season

Veteran Miami Dolphin running back, Ricky Williams, is out for the season with a shoulder injury 1 game after his return. One word: Bum. Two words: Who cares.

Week 12

Holmes Retires, Smith Will Start

Larry Johnson is out at least this week and now Priest Holmes has re-injured his neck. This opens the door for Kolby Smith to take over as the Chiefs' #1 running back. Smith was a 5th-round draft pick out of Louisville. He became the Cardinals’ starter in 2006 after an injury ended Michael Bush’s season. He finished with 154 carries for 862 yards and seven TD's. He added 24 receptions for 217 yards. At 5-11, 218 he is a powerfully built runner who’s also a reliable receiver, but lacks big-play speed.

Denver RB Hall Runs For Injured Young

Travis Henry was out and may suspended soon, Selvin Young got a little dinged up and that left free agent rookie from South Florida, Andre Hall, to come to the rescue. He carried the ball seven times for 89 yards, including a 62-yard TD. Not bad, but Young should be fine and start next week. Nevertheless, the way the Broncos go through running backs, he may be a worthwhile pick-up, just in case.

Raven's WR Darling Breaks Out

Baltimore Raven wide receiver, Devard Darling, had 4 catches for 107 yards and 1 touchdowns in Sunday's loss to the Browns. Darling was filling in for the injured Demetrius Williams. Darling was a 3rd-round pick in 2004, but has never done a thing. He is one to watch for another week though.

WR Carter Eclipses 100 Yards In Loss

Carolina Panther wide receiver, Drew Carter, caught five passes for 132 yards in the Panthers' loss at Green Bay. Carter looked like he would make more of a splash in 2007, but with no QB's in Carolina it is easy to see why he hasn't. He is not a fluke like Devard Darling may be, but he still doesn't have a good enough quarterback to rely on as a fantasy starter. Carter has 23 catches for 344 yards and 4 TD's in 2007. The situation is worth monitoring.

Williams To Return To Dolphins

Veteran Miami Dolphin running back, Ricky Williams, will return to the Miami line-up in week 11 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The only news that should matter here is for Chatman owners. Williams is unlikely to do much for a few weeks and may not do much at all. Chatman has been doing an excellent job, considering how bad the Dolphins are, and there is no reason for the Dolphins to stop using him, except that they may want to showcase Williams a bit to trade him in the off season. Whatever happens, he is not worth picking up unless you are really, really desperate.

Week 11

Peterson Out With Torn Ligament

Fantasy football All-Pro rookie running back, Adrian Peterson, has a torn ligament in his right knee and he will miss at least Sunday's game against Oakland. It is not a season-ending injury, but the Minnesota Vikings will not push their franchise back to soon with no chance for the playoffs. Chester Taylor will start. The Vikings have a very good offensive line and Taylor will have a good game. He is likely to make at least 2-3 starts.

Titans' WR Gage Breaks Out

The latest Tennessee wide out trying to become Vince Young's favorite target. Justin Gage caught a season-high 7 passes for 90 yards & 1TD. The 6-4 receiver is more of a possession-type, but his size makes him a great red zone target. He has 26 catches for 313 yards & 1 TD thus far in '07. He played 4 years in Chicago catching 64 passes for 908 yards & 4 TD's.

Arizona TE Pope Catches 2 TD's

Arizona Cardinal starting tight end, Leonard Pope, had five catches for 52 receiving yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's victory over Detroit. The Arizona offense doesn't look at lot at the tight end, but he Pope did catch 3 passes & 1 TD the week before the Cardinal's bye. It is possible that he could get more looks and become a legitimate fantasy tight end down the road.

Croyle Relieves Ineffective Huard

Kansas City Chiefs back-up quarterback, Brodie Croyle, relived an injured and ineffective Damon Huard in the Chiefs 27-11 loss at home to the Broncos. With the Chiefs season basically over, the Chiefs really have no choice but to go with their young gun. The 2006 3rd-round draft pick out of Alabama completed 17-of-30 passes for 162 yards and 1 interception. With Dwayne Bowe and Tony Gonzales as weapons, Croyle is worth a look in large leagues or 2 quarterback leagues, though he is a year away from likely showing anything for fantasy owners.

Week 10

LJ Out with Foot Injury

Kansas City Chief running back, Larry Johnson, will be out next week with a mid-foot sprain. According to the Kansas City Star, LJ is expected to miss at least this week and potentially longer.
Priest Holmes should start against Denver who has giving up 5.3 yards per carry and 126 rushing yards per game over its past four games. He is worth picking up for sure.

Saints' Patten Continues To Perform

New Orleans wide receiver, David Patten, had another solid fantasy performance with 4 catches for 81 yards and 1 TD. This follows last weeks 5 catches for 101 yard performance. He is the teams third receiver, but with the way Brees has been playing a third receiver can put up solid numbers.

Fargas Runs For Over 100

Oakland Raiders running back, Justin Fargas, is now the main back in Oakland and came through on Sunday with 104 yards on 24 carries and 1 TD. It is time to cut LaMont Jordan and get Fargas if you already haven't.

Alexander Sprains Knee

Seattle Seahawk running back, Shaun Alexander, sprained his knee and will likely miss practice this week. He still may play in Week 10, but is a definite bench as he has been banged up all year and has been a dud. Maurice Morris would start if Alexander can't go. He rushed for 55 yards on 9 carries in the 33-30 loss to Cleveland, nearly doubling Alexander's poor 32-yard performance. If you have a spot, he is worth a gamble,

Johnson Taken Off On Cart

Cincinnati Bengal star wide receiver, Chad Johnson, He was strapped to a backboard and wheeled off the field on a stretcher. Coach Marvin Lewis said Johnson had movement in all of his extremities and he was sent to a hospital as a precaution. Until there is further word, we must assume he may be out for the year. WR Chris Henry, who just came off suspension, becomes a great pick up if he does.
*Head coach Marvin Lewis said WR Chad Johnson had a neck strain but may be available to play Week 10. Great news for Johnson owners, considering what the news could have been. Chris Henry is still a decent pick up unit we see Johnson playing again.

Week 9

Titans' Henry To Be Suspended

Just when Tennessee rookie running back, Chris Henry was making blips on the fantasy radar it has been reported that he may be suspended for a banned substance. He is still in the line-up on Sunday, but this clouds his future as a prospect.

Norwood To Become Starter Soon

Atlanta Falcon running back, Jerious Norwood will likely be named the starter any week now. The only questions here are, what took so long and will they give him the ball enough to become a legitimate starting fantasy back? You should get him in a cheap trade for the playoff run just in case.

Clemens Named Starter For Jets

The New York Jets have named Kellen Clemens as their new starting QB as Chad Pennington has been benched. He was only 5 of 12 for 67 yards and 2 Int's in Sunday's loss against the Bills when he replaced Pennington late. Not a good sign, but Clemens has potential. He was the Jets 2nd-round pick last year out of Oregon where he threw for over 2,400 yards, 19 TD''s and only 4 Int''s while missing the final 2 games with a broken his ankle. He is worth a gamble in deep QB leagues, though he is probably a season away.

Kevin Jones Breaks Out In Lions Win

He has been contributing a little more with every week he's played since returning from his injury and finally Kevin Jones has broken out as a legitimate starting fantasy back. The Detroit Lions starting running back rushed for a season-high 107 yards and a TD in the Lions 16-7 upset over the Chicago Bears. He looks good and should still get better, especially at home on the turf. Kitna has been slumping, but he should still play well enough to give Jones plenty of TD 's and receptions if he stays healthy. If you thought he was a risk, but have held on to him, he could payoff huge if he stays healthy. He can be a stud in a year of duds...if he stays healthy. Make a trade for him if you can still get him at an medium price. Whatever that means. You know, not too much, you may still be able to snatch him relatively cheap. Whatever that means.

Panthers' King Catches 10 In Loss

Carolina Panther tight end, Jeff King, caught a career high 10 passes for 82 yards in the Panthers 31-7 loss to the Colts. He only had 18 catches for 189 yards previous, but he shows some potential if you need a tight end nevertheless.

Week 8

Dolphins' Brown Out For Year

Miami Dolphin running back, Ronnie Brown, will miss the rest of the season with a right knee injury. Brown underwent an MRI exam Monday after twisting his right knee in the third quarter of the Dolphins 49-28 loss to New England on Sunday. Devastating news for Brown owners who have watched him become a fantasy stud. Jesse Chatman, who looked very solid early on, will take over and start.

Edwards Steals QB Job From Losman

The Buffalo Bills have named rookie quarterback, Trent Edwards, their starting QB. He has played okay, but is an emergency fantasy QB at best. At least for now. He is a prospect that you could put on the bench, but only in 2 quarterback leagues or other desperate circumstances. As always, keep on eye out just in case. He has completed 66% of his 100 passes, but for only 660 yards 1 TD and 4 interceptions.

Rookie WR Williams Breaks Out

Tennessee Titans need a receiver to step up if they want to contend and rookie 4th-round draft pick Roydell Williams may be doing just that. With Kerry Collins at quarterback, Williams caught 5 passes for 124 yards. It is he second consecutive week he caught 5 passes. He is available in a good percentage of leagues and can be a prospect or an immediate start in some situations.

Week 7

Chambers Traded To The Chargers

Miami Dolphin wide receiver, Chris Chambers has been traded to the San Diego Chargers. THis immediately ups his value as well as Phillip River's value, while it hurts the value of Vincent Jackson, but it makes Ted Ginn Jr. a viable pick-ip in fantsay leagues.

Bennett Traded To Tampa Bay

Kansas City Chief back-up running back, Michael Bennett has been traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He will share time with Earnest Graham hurting Graham's value. Bennett is only worth a pick-up if you really need a running back, but you never know how he will pan out in the end.

Houston's Walters Catches Twelve Passes

Texan starting wide receiver, Kevin Walter caught 12 passes for 160 yards in Sunday's 37-17 loss to the Jaguars. With Matt Schaub throwing a lot and Andre Johnson still out Walters makes a good pick up, especially in points for receptions leagues. He has 27 receptions thus far in 2007, 23 of which came over the last 3 games. That is a 7-8 catch per game average. The 6-3 Walters is in his third season and has never accomplished a lot, but he looks like a good possession receiver and will still produce when Andre Johnson comes back.

Williams Breaks For Over a Hundred Yards

Carolina Panther running back, DeAngelo Williams rushed for 121 yards and a TD on 10 carries in the Panthers 25-10 win over the Cardinals. DeShaun Foster ran 17 times for just 43 yards. Foster is still the starter, but look for Williams to get a lot of runs and possibly take over as starter as some point.

Lewis Held Out Of Practice

Cleveland Brown running back, Jamal Lewis, wore a protective boot on Wednesday and did not practice. That is not a good sign and likely means he'll miss some time and if he does Jason Wright will start. Miami's run defense has struggled and whoever starts for the Browns makes a good fantasy play. If you are in need, Wright makes a nice pick-up.

Engram Now #1 In Seattle

Seattle Seahawk wide receiver, Bobby Engram, suddenly finds himself in the starting role and is likely the #1 receiver for Matt Hasselback for at least a couple of weeks. Starters Deion Branch and D.J. Hacket have both gone down with injuries and this should give fantasy managers who need to fill a WR for the byes a legitimate starter. He is a bit more valuable win leagues with point for receptions.

Warner Starting In Arizona

Matt Leinart was on his way out as start for the Cardinals and now with his injury is officially out. That leaves the reigns to the veteran Kurt Warner. He is still available in many leagues and he probably shouldn't be. With the Cardinal receiving core, Warner could be a fantasy starting QB. He makes a great back-up or a third-stringer.

Henry's Season Not Over Yet

Denver Broncos running back Travis Henry may be able to delay a possible one-year suspension from the NFL for violating the league's substance abuse policy by appealing the decision of the lawsuit if it does not go in his favor. This could buy him until November and give him four or five more weeks to be able to play. You shouldn't cut him yet, but you should do your best to own Selvin Young, though it is likely too late.

Graham To Start For Bucs

First Cadillac goes down, now Michael Pittman is out. This is music to their ears of Earnest Graham owners. The Tampa Bay Buccaneer new starting running back has decent numbers already rushing for 147 yards @ 4.1 yards a pop with 3 TD's. Even though the Bucs run game has only been average, you have to like the end zone numbers. He should be a 1,000 yard back unless Pittman comes back sooner than expected.

Week 6

Addai Questionable With Bruised Chest

The Indianapolis Colts star running back, Joseph Addai, will be a game-time decision making for a tough choice for Addai owners. Kenton Keith would start if Addai can't go. Being a bye-week, you may have to start him and take a chance, don't gamble on Kenton Keith unless you have no other choices. If you have a back-up not on bye, start him.

Frerotte To Start For Rams

The St. Louis Rams have finally decided to bench the injured and ineffective Marc Bulger (ribs). Gus Freotte will get the start. The Rams are very banged up and it is wise to stay away from all starters. Freotte could spark them to a solid game, but is a desperate start at best.

Broncos' Henry May Face 1 Year Suspension

The Denver Broncos running back Travis Henry has reportedly has tested positive for marijuana use and could be subject to a one-year suspension by the league. Henry previously served a four-game suspension from the NFL for violating the substance abuse policy in September 2005. Henry is trying to prevent the NFL from suspending him over the results of a drug test. Henry claims the league violated its substance abuse policy by not allowing his experts to be present for testing of his urine sample, according to court papers. The time is now to pick up Selvin Young if you already haven''t!.

Cadillac Injures Knee, Graham In End Zone Again

Tampa Bay running back, Carnell Williams, injured his knee in the first half in the game against the Panthers. It is unknown how bad the injury is at this point, but it may be serious. Earnest Graham has taken over and already scored 1 TD. Graham scored 2 TD''s last week. He is a must pick-up at this point. Michael Pittman will also see a lot of touches and may even start.

*Williams is out for the season.

Fargas Explodes For Raiders

Oakland Raider back-up running back, Justin Fargas took over for an injured LaMont Jordan Sunday and carried the ball 22 times for a career-high 179 yards. There is no word on Jordan's injury yet. Fargas won't be a big fantasy back, but he may be worth picking up in a pinch. This does increase the value of Dominic Rhodes who should return next week from a 4 game suspension. He is the better pick-up, but it could be the dreaded dual-back system if Jordan is out.

Week 5

Johnson Out For Week 4

Cincinnati Bengal's running back, Rudi Johnson will miss the Bengals' game on Monday against the undefeated New England Patriots because of a strained hamstring. Kenny Watson will start. If you need a star, grab him, but going up against the New England defense isn't exactly a time to play a back-up. On the other hand, the Bengals are due for a big game, especially at home, and the Patriots haven't beat a top team yet.

Morency Likely To See First Action

Green Bay running back, Vernand Morecy, has returned from a knee injury that sidelined him for the preseason and first three regular-season games. He may start for injured Brandon Jackson who is listed as questionable. DeShawn Wynn could get carries too. The Packers are winning and their starting running back, who ever it may be, could put up solid fantasy numbers if they become a full-time back. It is a situation worth paying attention. Jackson did not impress enough to nail the job down.

Jones To See More Carries

Lions running back, Kevin Jones, fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 28. He is not listed on the injury list and is expected to play during Week 4. He will likely see more snaps this week. Not worth playing yet unless you have to, but he could breakout any week now.

Steven Jackson Out Against Dallas

St. Louis Rams rookie running back, Brian Leonard, will get his first career start against the Dallas Cowboys. Steven Jackson will miss at least one week with a partial tear of his left groin.

McAllister Out For The Season

An MRI revealed that New Orleans Saints running back Deuce McAllister tore an anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. He is out for the season. The Saints have been a dud, but this is still great news for Reggie Bush owners. His stock has increased greatly.

Leinart Still Starter

Arizona Cardinal quarterback Matt Leinart was pulled in favor of back-up Kurt Warner. Warner went 15-20 258 yards and threw 2 TD''s and 0 Int''s, leading the Cardinals back and almost beat the Ravens. This is bad news for Leinart owners, Warner may be the new starter if Leinart doesn't perform this week.

RB Morris Stealing Fantasy Points

Sammy Morris is not starting and starter Laurence Maroney even ran for over a 100 yards last week, but Morris is stealing goalline carries, in fact just carries with 10 for 46 yards and 1 TD last week. He has been getting about 10 carries a game and goalline looks every game. This is killing Maroney's value. Couple that with the success of the passing offense, and Maroney may not live up to his 2007 fantasy hype. Swing a trade and possibly ditch him if you can get solid value. Also you may want to grab Morris. He can make a start in a pinch and if Maroney goes down, your in luck.

Several Young Receivers Hoping to Start in Fantasy Land

The in-season free agent-frenzy is where most leagues are won and lost in Fantasy Sports. It takes a little luck, a little skill and the fastest mouse in the west. Getting a free agent often means knowing Sunday and ready to make your moves then if possible or first thing Monday. After two weeks we have had several wide receivers make some noise, though none are guarantees at this point. First, there is Shaun McDonald of the Detroit Lions. The former Ram is currently leading the Lions with 13 receptions, 161 yards & 1 TD. With a plethora of receivers in Detroit, McDonald is chancy playing week-to-week, and is thus not our favorite prospect. Next there is Roydell Williams of the Tennessee Titans. He has 4 catches for 72 yards & 1TD. He makes a much better prospect than McDonald because he could become the main man in Tennessee, while McDonald has no chance of that. Then there is Jason Avant of the Philadelphia Eagles. The 2006 4th-round pick leads the Eagle wide outs with 8 catches for 109 yards & 1 TD. Philly seems to always be in need of a #1 receiver and Reggie Briown never seems to take the spot. Avant is a bit of a long shot, but has enough potential, especially if McNabb improves, to be solid third fantasy receiver. Finally, there is the rookie for the Kansas City Chiefs, Dwayne Bowe. The injury to veteran Eddie Kenison has given Bowe an opening and he has made some plays. The 23rd overall pick in the 2007 draft from LSU has 5 catches for 64 yards and 1 TD. The risk with Bowe is the lack-luster offense he plays for. Don't be surprised when Brodie Croyle takes over and then who knows? Maybe the pass offense picks up and Bowe could become a legitimate fantasy starter. At this point he is a prospect to watch or put on your bench at most.

Browns' Anderson throws 5 TD' s

New Cleveland Brown starting QB, Derek Anderson went 19 of 31 for 320 yards, 5 TD's & 1 Int. in the Browns 51-38 shocker at home. Don't expect to see Anderson to this next week or ever, but it makes him a viable prospect for a fantasy quarterback.

Carter Becoming a Viable Fantasy Receiver

Carolina Panthers wide Receiver Drew Carter was battling for the second spot as a Panther receiver and now looks to battle his way into some teams fantasy line ups. The Panthers have 4 good receivers, so it will be a gamble at this point week-to-week to play Carter, but catching 2 TD's in week one makes you think a little. At 6-3 he makes a great Red Zone target.

Pace Out for Season

Bad news for Steven Jackson owners, seven-time Pro Bowler Orlando Pace will miss the remainder of the season after he was diagnosed with a torn labrum on Monday. Jackson already had a bad games and this drops his value further. Pace is no longer at the top of his game, but he was good and his leadership will be missed.

Randle El Breaks Out

Washington Redskin receiver Antwaan Randle El outshined Santana Moss with 5 catches for 162 yards in the 16-13 win over Miami. Randle El could make a nice second or third receiver if Campbell continues to look his way, but his career suggest he is a long shot to be a fantasy starter unless you are getting big points for return yardage. Moss is still the better fantasy receiver at this point.

Norwoord 1 - Dunn 0

Doubt the fact that Warrick Dunn started and received 22 carries for 55 yards and 4 catches for 26 yards in the Atlanta Falcons 24-3 loss to the Vikings and Jerious Norwood only had 5 carries for 33 yards, Norwood has to win round one. Norwood looked great in the short time he played. Once again, we believe it will take a few weeks, but Norwood should start soon.

Dolphins May Start Chapman and Brown

Miami Dolphins' Running Back, Jesse Chatman may start in the backfield along side Ronnie Brown, but Brown will be the starting tailback. Chatman is worth a gamble and definitely keep on eye in him, but we believe this may push Ronnie Brown and he still could breakout in '07.

Pre-Season Wide Receiver Prospect Wrap-up

Malcom Floyd - WR - San Diego

The 6-5, 225 pound receiver has been with the Chargers practice squad and played 4 games one of which he caught Philips Rivers'' first TD pass. He has been impressive in camp, but he is a long shot to start for a fantasy team. He is a decent late round pick.

James Jones - WR - Green Bay

The 3rd-round draft pick has had an excellent camp and an even better preseason. He led the Packers with 21 catches for 233 yards. His is the #3 for now.

Demetrius Williams - Ravens

Nobody should get too excited about the Ravens 3rd receiver, but Williams has big-play potential and will start if the aging Mason goes down.

Brandon Marshall - Broncos

A long shot, but with the aging Rod Smith in front of him and an improving Jay Cutler throwing, Marshall could be a mid-season starter.

Pre-Season Running Back Prospect Wrap-up:

Selvin Young - RB - Denver

Come on Shanahan! What are you doing to us? Henry was going to gold. Young led the Broncos in rushing with 167 yards, 2 Td's @4.9. Worth a late-round gamble. Worth a late-round gamble, but not ahead of Bell..yet..?

Tony Hunt - RB - Philadelphia

The Eagles 3rd-round draft pick has been seeing a lot of time in the Eagles backfield. He is the 2nd all-time leading Penn State rusher 3,320 yards & first with 654 carries. With injury-plagued Westbrook & Buckhalter in front of him, he could see action.

Brandon Jackson - Packers

The #2 pick is the starter by default. He will have a shot to hang on if he des well early. When Morencey returns the job may be up for grabs.

Brian Leonard - Rams

The 2nd-round pick will play at fullback, back-up tailback & anywhere else they can stick him and if Jackson goes down...

Pre-Season Quarterback Prospect Wrap-up:

John Beck - Miami - Rookie

As always, Warning: Rookie QB's rarely much good! But every now & then..... Beck completed 70% of his passes for BYU & threw for 3,885 yards with 32 TD's & eight INT's. Played very well in the preseason.

Kellen Clemens - Jets

The 2006 2nd-round pick was sharp in preseason & rumors of him starting even floated about. He is the back-up, but even though we like Pennington, his history is full of injuries.

Brodie Croyle - Chiefs

The 2006 3rd-round pick from Alabama lost the battle to Huard, but still may be the Chief's near future QB, though he is likely at least a year away from being in one's fantasy future.

Inside the Numbers: Pre-Season Battles

Jacksonville QB

Garrard: 11-14-129 yards 0 TD's 0 Int.

Leftwich: 6-12-81Yards 0 TD's 0 Int.

Leftwich is still the starter, but Garrard is not far behind.

Cleveland QB

Quinn: 13-20-155 yards 2 TD's 0 Int.

Anderson: 6-8-65 0 TD's 1 Int.

Frye: 5-10-42Yards 0 TD's 1 Int.

Quinn is the clear winner in his debut and may have a hand up on the starting job.

Tennessee RB

Brown 10-67 Yards 0 TD's.

Henry 8-15 Yards 0 TD's.

White DNP.

Brown's strong performance strengthens his bid to serve as Tennessee's starting running back over White & Henry.

Minnesota RB

Peterson 8-70 Yards 1TD.

Taylor 4-16 Yards 0 TD's.

Peterson is going to be the clear winner in this battle. He is the real deal & should be rising fast in your rankings. Taylor will cut into his carries, but not enough to hurt is value.

The Johnson vs. Jackson Debate

Last year it was Larry Johnson vs. LaDainian Tomlinson for the #1 spot in fantasy football. Well, L.T. crushed any doubts whether he is number one with his amazing 2006 performance. So, by default, L.J, who had a great year, is number two. Simple. Then came the rise of Steven Jackson and a new debate rages. Who is the #2 player in fantasy football?

Who do you choose if you get the #2 pick? Well, if you base it off of the 2006 performance, like many do, Jackson wins. 1,583 yards rushing, 13 TD's and the amazing 90 catches for 806 yards and 3 TD's. He can fight for #1 with those stats. He is just 24, is healthy and plays and a very good offense who has a well-balanced attack of which he is the vocal point. Then their is L.J. who rushed for 1,789 yards, 17 TD's & caught 41 passes for 410 yards and 2 TD's.

The debate comes down to one question. Do you get points for receptions? Well if so, Jackson is the preseason #2 player in fantasy football. If not, it is a statistical dead heat.

Then their are the non-statistical issues of his holdout, Priest Holmes and the Kansas City offensive line. Johnson will sign at some point and should not miss any games and only a couple in the worse case scenario. Priest Holmes should not be more than a third-down-back, if he makes the team, but would cut into Johnson's carries, but that is likely to happen no matter who is backing him up. The bigger concern is the line. In the past two seasons, the Chiefs have lost Pro Bowl offensive linemen Willie Roaf and Will Shields to retirement. It had an effect in 2006 when L.J's average per carry went from 5.2 to 4.3, but his overall fantasy stats were virtually unchanged. The Chiefs added free agent tackle Damion McIntosh, but now he will miss four to six weeks with a sprained right knee. All of this should have little effect in the end, but it is enough to make Jackson Johnson's equal.

On the other hand, Jackson has had 1 big year. If you end up with the 2005 Jackson, you will not be happy. It is very unlikely that Jackson will improve his reception totals, and will very likely see 10-20 less, simply based on NFL statistical history. Jackson's 2006 performance is probably his threshold. At least as an overall season. In addition, Jackson picked up a huge chunk of his 2006 rushing stats in the last 3 weeks of meaningless football. He rushed for just over 400 yards and 6 of his 13 TD's in those last 3 games. That doesn't mean they don't count, or all teams don't have those games, it is just something to note. In the end, Larry Johnson is a slightly safer pick, especially if his is signed before your draft, but going into 2007, you really can't lose if you land Johnson or Jackson. Unless it's Butch Johnson and Bo Jackson. Then your screwed.

Running Back Battles

Tennessee Titans

The battle is between veteran Chris Brown, second-year flop, LenDale White and rookie Chris Henry. Brown started on Saturday night and carried nine times for 19 yards. He looked all right, but is you basic straight-ahead power runner, he looked like a back-up. White took over in the second quarter and carried six times for 12 yards. He looked quicker than Brown, but did little to help his cause. The word is his attitude is improved in training camp and he is working hard. Henry played most of the second half, carrying 12 times for 42 yards. He's the fastest of the three backs and has big-play ability. It is likely that the Titans will start off with a committee approach, but Henry or White are still the only ones worth drafting at this point as a mid-late round gamble, with Henry maintaing the bigger upside. Brown has little potential to be a major factor.

Green Bay Packers
The battle here is between Vernand Morency and rookie Brandon Jackson. Morency is #1 on the Packers depth chart, but he is on the sidelines with a strained knee that may open the door for 2nd-round draft pick out of Nebraska, Brandon Jackson got the start against the Steelers and carried 16 times for 57 yards., but most of his production came late in the third quarter when the back-ups were on the field. Noah Herron is in the mix as well. Currently coaches have been critical of Jackson's blocking skills, which would make him a poor third-down back. That may actually help Jackson become a featured runner and have Morency and Herron as back-ups. Right now it is up in the air, but Jackson seems to have the most pay-off unless Morency gets back on the field and shows something.

What is a Sleeper?

I recently read an article on Yahoo Sports about what a real Sleeper is supposed to be. It will be easier just to show it to you, then we can debate:

Roto Arcade: True Sleepers

By Andy Behrens
August 13, 2007

Hate to break this to you, but DeAngelo Williams isn't really a sleeper.

Neither is Cedric Benson, Santonio Holmes, Brandon Jacobs, Jerious Norwood, Vincent Jackson, or Kevin Curtis. Those guys are numbers 53, 21, 102, 34, 65, 90, and 101 in the Yahoo! pre-rankings. Their names are listed in the glossy front pages of every fantasy football preview magazine.

Those players might be undervalued – some of them severely, which is a subject for a later feature – but they're not exactly sleepers. Basically, no skill position player with an essential and obvious role can be called a fantasy sleeper. Every owner in a competitive league will have them on a cheat sheet.

Know who else isn't a sleeper? Any top-ten pick in the NFL Draft. Also, any rookie who attended Notre Dame, USC, Ohio State, Florida, Michigan or Texas. There's really no way you can fail to know those dudes. True fact: 96.9 percent of all life on earth holds an undergraduate degree from one of those universities. The other 3.1 percent of us are simply forced by our overlords to watch their games.

If you're looking for actual sleepers – like, of the 2006 Maurice Jones-Drew variety – you'll need to look beyond the top of the depth charts. You'll also need to look beyond Brady Quinn, Ted Ginn Jr., and Dwayne Jarrett. Rest of Article with his Sleepers - Some very good deep sleepers!

Hate to break this to you, but John Beck, isn't really a sleeper. He's a untested rookie QB that will likely have no value in 2007 and is an absolute guess to his pro potential at this point. I am not doubting Mr. Behrens expertise, nor Beck's possible future ability, but a sleeper isn't just someone most people have never heard of.

While I understand how big names aren't exactly sleepers, unless you qualify it, like with exactly, but the name "Sleeper" still works. One might say, "He is a first-round sleeper" or "a deep sleeper" or maybe "a wide receiver sleeper". Here is a definition of a sleeper from Dictionary.com: someone that becomes unexpectedly successful or important after a period of being unnoticed, ignored, or considered unpromising or a failure. Unexpectedly successful after a period considered unnoticed or unpromising. That sounds like Cedric Benson if he breaks out in 2007. Sound like Santonio Holmes, Brandon Jacobs, Jerious Norwood, Vincent Jackson, or Kevin Curtis if they were to have big 2007 seasons. When you are talking about Fantasy Football it is the stats that matter...Right? All of those players stats in 2006 would be either unnoticed by some or a failure by others as fantasy starters.

With the same above definition, a NFL #1 draft pick or even most second or third-round draft pick wouldn't be considered sleepers. They did not go unnoticed, they are promising. That, Mr. Behrens is right about...unless you consider not every reader pays attention to the draft! Some are actually new players too. Some just aren't paying attention in teh off-season, but still want advice now that the season is about to start.

So what is a sleeper? Oh, whatever you want it to be. Maybe we'll change it next year to stop the horrible controversy. I like to think of it as player who is, yes as Mr. Behrens says, undervalued, or someone I think is going to be unexpectedly more successfully than most people think. A player that others will sleep on, and you shouldn't. I guess Frank Gore wasn't a sleeper in 2006? Don't tell that to my 2006 fantasy opponents or our 2006 readers.

Gore Breaks Hand

San Francisco 49er running back Frank Gore suffered a fractured bone in his right hand during a practice Monday. He is expected to return to practice next week with a cast that will protect his hand during contact. This shouldn't hurt his draft value, but if you where on the fence about him, this is your chance to get off.

Rhodes Suspended for Four Games

Oakland Raiders back-up running back Dominic Rhodes who signed this year to give the Raiders insurance for injured Lamont Jordan, has been suspended for 4 games for violating the NFL drug policy. This hurts Rhodes draft value. It is probably best to stay away from him completely.

Wiggins signs with Jaguars

Jermaine Wiggins signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. This is good news for his fantasy stats. The Jags need a tight end and and consistent target over the middle for Leftwich. Wiggins caugth 71 passes for 705 yards and 4 TD's in 2004. He makes a nice late-round sleeper tight end pick.

Lewis signs with Browns

Jamal Lewis signed a 1 year deal with the Cleveland Browns. This is one part of 3 big changes for the running back position. The Ravens acquired Willis McGahee from the Bills for draft picks. Finally, Reuben Droughns has been traded to the N.Y Giants. McGahee should benefit the most from this shuffle, going to the best team.

Rhodes signs with Raiders

Dominic Rhodes signed a 2 year deal with the Oakland Raiders. He will likely be a back up to LaMont Jordan as well as insurance.

Jones traded to Jets

Thomas Jones was traded to the N.Y. Jets. This should help his fantasy value a bit getting away from Cedric Benson, whose fantasy value has shot up.

Broncos acquire Henry

Travis Henry's stock shot up when he was traded to the run happy Denver Broncos. He rushed for a quiet 1,211 yards and 7 TD's in 2006. Expect 1,400 in '07.
